Women’s History Month: Grassroots List March 2025

By Carolyn Gevinski

In honor of Women’s History Month, this March Grassroots Magazine would like to highlight organizations in and around New York City centered on local women’s history. As federal funding is pulled from nonprofits and historical organizations, it is crucial to take advantage of events and exhibitions before they disappear!

Please consider visiting or getting involved with the following organizations:

  1. The Center for the Women of New York (CWNY) is a nonprofit dedicated to women’s equality. They offer career skills classes, caregiver support groups, and social activities.

  2. Girls Inc. of NYC supports adolescent development through mentorship to prepare girls to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers.

  3. Women.NYC connects women of New York to business and job opportunities.

  4. The Center for Women’s History is an exhibition run by The New York Historical and features the lives and legacies of women from America’s past.

  5. NYC Parks has a site where you can explore local parks dedicated to historically notable women.

  6. The New York Public Library honors women’s history month through free events, film screenings, and performances for both adults and children.

  7. The National Organization for Women New York City (NOW-NYC) promotes legislation to fight for reproductive justice, and challenge discrimination and gender-based violence.

  8. The New York Women’s Foundation uses philanthropy and grant-making to support women locally.
